Tigger watching the commerants
--------------------------

Tigger reporting in

Well you may be wondring where I am We caught an overnight train from Botiva I was really scared so slept in P aulines bed as the train was a sleeper. It rattled rolled shook and creeked all of the 11hours we ate plum jam on hazel nut bread. We arrived in the capital city Went in a taxi to see the sights. But the driver honked his horn so much as he drove across 6 lanes of traffic. I had to hide. We only stayed 6 hours and left for the Black Sea coast. We traveled 5 hours by train again We walked along the beach watching the ships
Today we caught a bus to the delta. Have spent the afternoon birdwatching.

Useful cart.

--------------------------

Horse and carts.

I just love the clip clop of the cart horses as they echo through. the village People use them as their cars. Sometimes they are drawn by one horse or two. Famlies travel out to the hill sides to cut wood or grass for the animals and to tend crops.

Tigger learns about making grappa

We came across a fast running stream and a collection of old wooden buildinngs. In the centre was a circular wooden tub used the fast swirling water as a washing machine. The women use a long pole to get their clothes out. I wondred how many garments got washed downstream. Running off this was a distilery for making apple vodka and a local drink called grappa It has to go through the disillery many times otherwise the alchol level is too high. Women sit for hours chopping apples into small pieces to place them in an enormous barrel to begin the fermentation process Here In this ancient region of Maramues apple trees grow willd We have just missed the blossom season which woulld have been beautiful
A lady showed Tigger how corn which each family grows was placed in a grinder and came out like corn maize flour it was then placed in a sack to be used by the family for using to make special food I wonder if you can help me find a recipe for food in this area. For lunch we had soup with a boiled egg in it and a meat and rice mixture wrapped in cabbage leaves.

As we traveled along the country road we saw flocks of sheep and goats about 30 altogether being minded by a shepherd and his dog. Bears a nd wolves can come out of the woods to attack the sheep At night they go int a wooden holding pen to be milked by hand. Cheese is made from this milk. We saw it hanging in plastic bags on sticks to cure.

Sunday Mav 18

wow we have had a marvelous time since i last chatted to you. im not putting in any punctuation in this as the key board is back the front to ours and i keep loosing all my work.
to get th the faomus city of a musical composer we had to travel past small fields which looked like a patchwork quit, every now and then there was a yellow rape field. can you tell me what this is used for. housed where white with brown pitched rooves. window boxes of geraniums were common. we saw no animals but collections of buildings had bales of hay and sliage outside and we could definetly smell cows. i wonder where they were.when the driver had been driving for 2 hours we had to make a compulsory stop for him to rest. yra a time for more food... strawberry sponge cake.
we arrived at our destination after another 2 hours on the bus. we saw mountains with snow on them andwere on the edge of the lake district. the bus caused a traffic jam as it could not fit through a tunnel on the road in the city. people bike everywhere and bike parking places a common sight. our hotel was an alod concrete building hundred of years old but decorated beautifully, our room was pimk. tigged jumped all over the ginormous bed, he had heard the guide tell us a story about a giant theat had once lived in the area. there is a hole in a noumtain where he is surposed to of jumped through to escape. i think this is the land of dtories. i have to go and take tigger for a walk talk to you again soon.

at destination

well we are at our destination. today is friday. we are finding communicatiioon very frustrating. this is my 6th attempt to send this to you.
we flew for an hour and 10mins from sausaage city. this place is famous for its musical composers. tigger jumped up on the statue of one of them so i could take his photo. ill try and send them soon but ive left my camera cord at home.
in this city we have changed to our summer clothes. tigger is not impressed with the amount of smoke he has to inhale. he says the women are georgeous as they have access to so many labeled deserginner clothes. he made friends with a clown blowing up fancy balloons in the square.in the square we took tigger to say a prayer in a beautiful catheredal. he fell in love with the horse drawn carrages and so we took him for a ride to see the cities moset beautiful buildings. I wonder if you can find out what the might have been, they included the birthplace of a famous musician and an old scottish church built in 1152.
we had dinner in an undergrown celler. we went down under the grown and had a typical meal. snitchel and an apple pudding for desert, wonder if you can guess what it is. it was delicious . the apples were in a pastry and mixed with something like flour and hazel nuts. if you find the recipie maybe we couled make it when i get back.
this morning after a good nights sleep we had breakfast of cheese, ham, tomatoes and pastries. ohhh im wondering who the scales in our bathroom are for tigger or myself. from the window we look over the city and i see steeples of all shapes and sizes, domes of green and black, red rooves all on a pitch. from the square near our hotel which is called the hilton small narrow streets go off and lead to amazing shapped buildings with different shaped windows, doors, and ordiments all on the same building. f i can get some photos to you have a close look for these.
sorry about the spelling and funny words but this computer in the dinning room has a mind of its own.
now today the weather is not 33deg but cooler and we are heading for a town made famous by a movie. talk to you again soon.

First leg

Well welcome. Tiger and I have arrived at our first stopover. The temperature is 26deg C and the local time is 8.45. We will be here for 4 hours before boarding the plane again. Ive taken off a layer of clothes as it is so warm. Our flight from Auckland was nearly 11 hours long. Tiger and I got very restless and I wanted to get off. I watched 2 movies. Tiger liked the one called The Bees best. It has such clever animation. I really think he was thinking of his friend Pooh.
Hope you are wrapped up warm. Talk again soon
